The Chicago Tribune Feb. 27th endorsed Lorraine Mary Murphy in her race for Cook County Judge by saying she is "an experienced prosecutor in the state's attorney's office, noted for her trial skills and experience in complex litigation".
Chicago Bar Association has stated "Ms. Murphy has extensive trial experience and is well regarded for her knowledge of the law, legal ability, fairness and diligence."
A tireless advocate of victims’ rights, Lorraine Mary Murphy has the experience and judgment to keep our streets safe. Lorraine’s interest in the Law began shortly after she graduated from College with a Journalism degree. She began as an on-air reporter at an NBC affiliate in West Virginia and then she moved on to CNN in Atlanta. It was her experience reporting on crime, corruption and injustice that convinced Lorraine to attend Law School and begin a career in public service.
After graduation from Law School, Lorraine worked briefly for a civil law firm before being accepted to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. For the last 16 years, Lorraine has advanced through the Office as an Assistant State’s Attorney. She has tried over 70 Felony jury trials to verdict, 19 of which were murder jury trials. Lorraine has tried hundreds of Bench trials as well as Motions and other legal matters. As a result of her experience and ability, Lorraine has received numerous endorsements from Unions and community leaders, (see complete list under the Endorsement page), and she has been found “Highly Recommended”, “Recommended”, or “Qualified” by all of the evaluating Bar Associations.
Lorraine would bring a level of compassion and empathy to the bench based on her personal experience. She and her husband, Jim, have two small children, Caitlin (4) and Jimmy (2), and they reside on the northwest side of Chicago. Lorraine is a cancer survivor, having first been diagnosed and treated in her early twenties and then having a reoccurrence requiring major surgeries and chemotherapy shortly after her son Jimmy was born. Happily, Lorraine just celebrated one year cancer-free!
Lorraine recognizes the importance of giving back to our community. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Reach Out Community Center in Little Village and is active in the planning and promoting of events as well as mentoring and chaperoning the children throughout the year. Lorraine is actively involved in her neighborhood community association and routinely works with breast cancer charities. She gives support and speeches to students about her battle with breast cancer and how to handle such a life changing event at so young an age.
Now, more than ever, we need qualified and experienced judges who will bring fairness and consistency to the courtroom. Judges who will defend all of our rights equally, and make decisions based on the law and the evidence. Lorraine Mary Murphy will be that judge.
Please vote for Lorraine Mary Murphy on March 17, 2020. PUNCH 215!!
